  • How I went from thinking animal chiropractic was hocus pocus to believing it is an integral component of their care.

Picture this: a young veterinarian fresh out of school, passionate about horses but skeptical of and not having been taught about anything outside the realm of traditional medicine. That was me in 1986, stepping into the world of equine care with a head full of knowledge in the traditional areas of veterinary medicine and no knowledge about chiropractic care for animals.

Fast forward a decade later to a pivotal moment in Wellington, where I found myself facing a perplexing challenge with my own jumper who just wouldn't keep his lead behind. Despite my expertise in sport horse lameness and extensive traditional treatments, I was unsuccessful in solving the problem and I was stumped. Traditional methods had fallen short, leaving me frustrated and my horse struggling to maintain his lead.

In a moment of desperation, I reached out to a colleague who was well trained in the field of equine chiropractic care. What happened next changed everything. With a simple adjustment on my horse’s head, a perplexing issue related to bridling completely resolved and never returned. The falling off the lead issue was managed very successfully with consistent chiropractic care. Suddenly, I realized there was more to this "hocus pocus" than meets the eye.

To delve deeper into this newly discovered (to me) field of care, I started having my colleague work regularly on my other horses and I witnessed transformations in their performance as well. Their strides lengthened, their jumps became more round, and they were generally happier in their jobs. It was like unlocking a hidden potential within them and it was especially impactful on me since I knew them very well, both as their rider and as their primary veterinarian.

This revelation sparked a journey of discovery. I sought out training in animal chiropractic, eager to learn more about this transformative therapy. What I learned changed my vision of care for the horse. Chiropractic care wasn't just a complementary treatment; it was one of the cornerstones of equine wellness.

Now, decades later, I stand firm in my belief that every horse, regardless of discipline, deserves the benefits of chiropractic care. It's not about replacing traditional veterinary practices but enhancing them. By optimizing their bodies and nervous systems, we can reduce the incidence of injuries, improve performance, and ensure our equine companions lead long, healthy lives.

From skeptic to staunch advocate, my story is a testament to the power of open-minded exploration and the profound impact of comprehensive and collaborative care on our beloved horses.

  • When it comes to your horse’s well-being, the choice between a veterinarian certified in animal chiropractic and an equine body worker can be crucial. Let’s explore why a certified veterinarian holds the edge and why qualifications matter.

Veterinarian Certified in Animal Chiropractic: The Gold Standard

A veterinarian certified in animal chiropractic embodies a blend of medical expertise and holistic understanding. Their journey involves rigorous training, mastering the intricate nuances of animal anatomy, and honing their skills to perfection. Each adjustment is a testament to their deep knowledge and commitment to your horse’s optimal health.

What sets them apart is not just their ability to release restrictions to the mobility of the joints of the spine and limbs but their comprehensive approach. They diagnose, treat, and nurture, addressing physical ailments while optimzing the function of the nervous system. This holistic perspective ensures that every aspect of your horse’s well-being is considered, leading to lasting wellness and improved performance.

Equine Body Worker: The Missing Certification

On the other hand, an equine body worker, while skilled in massage and soft tissue work, lacks standardized qualification standards. Unlike certified veterinarians, there are no established criteria or certifications that guarantee their expertise. This absence of a professional benchmark raises questions about the consistency and quality of care they provide.

While equine body workers may excel in certain aspects of therapy, such as muscle relaxation and tension relief, their scope is limited. They may offer temporary relief but typically do not have the depth of understanding needed to address underlying skeletal restrictions or complex neurological issues.

The Clear Choice for Comprehensive Care

In the realm of equine health, the choice becomes clear. A veterinarian certified in animal chiropractic offers a gold standard of care, backed by qualifications, expertise, and a commitment to excellence. Their treatments go beyond surface-level therapy, delving deep into the core of your horse’s well-being.

By choosing a certified veterinarian, you not only ensure the highest level of care for your horse but also peace of mind. Their qualifications, coupled with their holistic and comprehensive approach, make them the trusted partner in your horse’s health journey. After all, when it comes to your beloved companion, nothing but the best will suffice.
